Hi my name is Joseph Brian Andersen. I am the second oldest out of my brothers (there are 4 of us, 2 of us play regularly 1 hasn't played in a structured environment, and the other 1 is to cool for 40k…). I am 15. I have been playing Warhammer 40k since November of 2006. My first army was the Tau. Now I own and play Daemon Hunters, Witch Hunters, Blood angels, and Raven Guard. I am not the best general, painter, or tactician around my area. I live in Utah. My closet store is EndZone we have a pretty active community up here with 10-12 regular attendees on our league nights. I have been writing seriously since 6th grade. I am not the best one of our contributors, but I try to give you guys the best work that I can produce. Happy gaming!

Derek Bressler

Back when I was around 10 years old I remember flipping through a comic book and seeing an ad for a free funny little plastic soldier. Naturally being a 10 year old boy I called the number and 2 weeks later I had my first space marine, which I painted quite terribly. Soon after I had my first box of Chaos Space Marines and it was not too long before I fell completely in love with the hobby. I am now 22 years old and since those days my armies have grown. I am now in possession of over 3k points of Chaos, 2k points of Eldar, and just recently roughly 3k points of Tyranids.

I attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the area of computer engineering and am currently working on achieving my bachelors in Information Technology and as soon as I am finished I will move on to working on my masters degree in computer Science.

I currently live in Otterbach, Germany with my wife, 3 month old baby boy, and Heidi our little Border Collie. We are over here by the graces of the good old USAF and I have to say that it has been quite the experience thus far. Life in another country can be quite difficult and definitely makes it hard to find a good game of 40k though not for a lack of trying. We will be here for around another year and then will hopefully be heading back to the US. Eventually when my wife gets out of the Air Force we will find our way back to our hometown of Milwaukee Wisconsin and settle down for good.

Noah Dove

Hello, my name is Noah, and I'm both a contributor to, and the publisher of The Ailarian.

I graduated from St. Olaf College in the spring of '06 with a degree in computer science. Having realized (too late) that I didn't want to be a computer scientist, and having absolutely no direction in life, my life after graduation immediately entered a death spiral of unemployment, really terrible employment, and failed small businesses (Wizard Hat Web Design, thus the URL for The Ailarian).

In June of '07, I got married to my wife Allison, and we moved to Champaign, IL (she's getting her doctorate in condensed matter physics). One day, while mulling over my continued death spiral, I thought to myself: "I'm a wanna-be web designer, and, if I can't get employed, maybe I should try to start my own business again." Thus, the Ailarian was born.

40k-wise, it all started for me in high school. I was sick of MTG for it's advantages that it hands to rich people, and I was missing painting (I used to paint battle tech figurines, and hero quest dudes), so I decided to get back in. I picked the coolest race (elder) with the coolest units (wraithguard and rangers) at the time, and I got my ass handed to me so badly that I quit playing the game.

Four years later, I was bit by the painting bug again, and started the guard army that I play today (2.5 years later, and I still don't have my 1000 pt. army painted yet…). It wasn't until Janruary of '07 that I finally got it up to actually play a game (after 1.5 years of painting…). I decided to write up my first report for my first game, eventually becoming the "public game" series that you've grown to love.

Other than running The Ailarian, I'm also an on-the-side web designer, and, as of recently, a QA dude for a webapps company

Donnie Heibein

Hello there,

My name is Donnie Heibein, I am 20 years old, and I am a warhammer-holic! Most people would know me best as Grand-Master Lomandalis from 40konline.com. I was introduced to warhammer 40,000 back in 1999 by my older brother who actually dropped from the hobby entirely. Over the years I have had many armies and too many points in some of the ones I currently have. Armies to date: 1999 Eldar (2000pts, retired), Grey Knights (2000pts, retired), Bretonnians (4000pts), 2007 Eldar (1500pts), Dark Angels (6500pts, can field complete Deathwing and Ravenwing armies), Warmachine: Khador (1500pts), Flames of War: Canadians (1500pts).

The first 40k site I found online was eldaronline.com, which eventually merged with 40k.ca, now it is one of the largest general 40k boards on the net and I am privileged to be part of the staff. For those that think they have no chance at becoming staff, as long as you contribute and have something to say, you will be noticed heheh. That's all I can say before one of the big bosses gets mad at me for revealing our secrets ;-)

Anyways, the reason I am contributing articles to the Ailarian is that I have written fiction for years (don't try and find my earlier stuff, it was crap lol) and have wanted a place to express myself aside from just in the forums, so when this was announced I pounced on the idea with my review of the Dark Angels codex. And I feel that my writing has gotten better, so I have started submitting fiction as well. I hope mainly that people will enjoy my fiction, learn from my reviews, understand my tactica, and pass me their feed back!

Peter King

Peter King woke up one day in a pool of his own blood.

While in hospital, he went off drink and drugs, and decided to pay exorbitant amounts of cash for the pleasures of plastic, solvent abuse and self-harm.

He has never looked back, as he has just spat in your face, and is on the run from Mexican police.

There comes a time in every man's life where he must impersonate a policeman as a part of a YMCA troupe, and strip for the pleasure of 30 screaming women. For Peter King, that time has come and gone.

He believes that people will never change, and the only way to alleviate human suffering is to kill every last conscious being. He talks a lot, but says nothing at all. He likes kitties and supersoakers in addition to that.

He writes a bit, and has several unpublished novels, plays and videogames lying around in closets.

Robin Larsson

Hello there good readers! I'm Robin, but most of you are more likely to know me as Purgatory on 40konline. I'm from Sweden, and I'm currently a student trying to become a teacher in English and Swedish.

I've been involved in the hobby and I've owned miniatures for almost nine years now, and I've been playing really actively - at least once a week but more often than not two or three times - for two years.

My armies include a 6000 point Space Marine army that I've been collecting ever since I began playing, a 1500 point mechanized Sisters of Battle army, a 1250 point Kroot warband and a brand new 1000 point army of Wood Elves in Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

I began playing since I've always enjoyed building scale airplanes, helicopters and so on - and I figured that this is the next step. Today, my favourite part of the hobby is still assembling and converting models.

I've written a couple of tacticas for 40konline previously, so when Noah asked me to be a part of this project, it was a certainty.

Any comments and critique - good or bad - is more than welcome, it is what keeps me writing.

Mike Mallon

Hey, I'm Mike Mallon, a contributor here at The Ailarian. I started playing Warhammer 40k back in the early days of the 3rd edition. I took a small break towards the end of high school, but can now say that I am happily back into the hobby. As many participants in this hobby, I started with a Space Marine army and have never looked back. I have a substantially large Black Templars force that now totals about 5000 points. Despite my love for Marines, my interest is not limited to them and I'm in the process of building my second army, a Tyranid swarm. Some day I plan to have at least a few armies and some of my other prospective choices include Tau and Dark Eldar. Of course, I'm planning to take these one step at a time so I will doubtfully be starting anything new for some time. I have my hands full of Tyranids at the moment!

I'm currently a college student hoping to finish up my Master's Degree in Computer Science this year. Despite that, I still make time to paint and play games. I try to get at least one game in per week, work permitting, and to paint at least a few models of my ever-growing Tyranid army. Aside from Warhammer, I occupy my time playing sports with my friends and teaching Tae Kwon Do, which I have been studying for 16 years and hold a 3rd Dan Black Belt. I'm a big gamer and am always willing to try out a new game once (or twice) and have plenty of fun designing board games and RPGs with my friends.

Here at The Ailarian you'll mainly see me contributing battle reports of the games I play. I write the reports both for your enjoyment as a reader and as a learning tool for new and experienced players alike. I learned from watching games and reading reports myself and I feel it's one of the most effective ways to get better, next to personal experience. With this in mind, I always try to add some words of wisdom or lessons learned at the end of my reports to sum up the good and bad tactical decisions made. I am also hoping to write up some Tactica articles for later issues. The tactics and armies of Warhammer 40k are very interesting to me and despite only having one and a half armies myself, I own most of the codices in an effort to learn how to effectively use the rest of them. My friends and I even play "full-proxy" games in which we proxy entire armies to get a feel for their units and style of play.

I'm always interested in hearing from the readers of my reports and The Ailarian in general. Thank you for reading The Ailarian and I hope to hear from you soon!
